Lurkey Loos

Hello everyone. Or I guess I should be asking, are there enough people reading this to classify, en masse, as an "everyone"?

I know there must be...hopefully...some lurkers out there. Right? And when I say lurkers, you know what I mean and who you are. You check in to see if I have posted anything new and curse my name to the heavens when I inevitably haven't. And you hopefully get some enjoyment out of the posts I do publish. But after doing this for....Gads, has it really been almost two years?!!...I am really curious as to who is reading this. Are you family and/or friends? Are you past or hopefully soon-to-be current Wolf Hollow interns/employees?

I seem to have the same few people leaving comments...Thanks family/friends-close and extended!!...but that's about it.
So, this ONE TIME, I am hoping you all will do me the favor of doing the "publishing". If you could just leave a brief comment, even if it's just to tell me to stop my whining, I would really appreciate it. And it would help sate this burning question I have had almost since the day I started this blog for the betterment of Wolf Hollow, and that is "Who is reading this and why?"

Mucho thanko!! Til next time...

Hi Heather,

I have to confess, I'm "guilty" of lurking on your site. I helped out at Wolf Hollow a few years ago (1999? 2000?) when I first moved to the island. I returned to my native Wisconsin a little over a year ago, but your site helps my homesickness tremendously. Keep up the great work!

We're lurkers. We can't remember how we found your blog, but it was probably through a cat blog. We think the birds look pretty tasty, but are glad you help get them back up and flying.

Hello Heather,

Well I've never thought of myself as a "lurker", but I sure do love your blog and I check it out weekly hoping for updates. I grew up in Friday Harbor and visited Wolf Hallow when I was younger. Currently I'm a student in the Naturopathic program at Bastyr and I love reading about the different ways you all treat the animals that are brought in.

Keep up the great blogging!

Thanks!
Bronwyn

I've been reading your website for about a year and a half or longer. I retired up here in Sept. and your site made me appreciate what compassionate people live here. I wanted to live around people who cared for all creatures great and small. Thanks for your dedication.

I think I rented Laura's apartment when she moved back to Wisconsin.

Heather, you know I check your page all the time and give you shit whenever you don't have any new photos up.

Greetings from a FL lurker currently in NJ. We fell in love with the San Juans several years ago on a summer trip and went back during the Xmas break and bought land on Buck Mountain (hence the nickname). We are just waiting for my wife to get her 30 years in so she can retire then we will move out there and start building the house. (July 2009) Until then I use desticam.com as my home page so I can get my daily islands fix. They have a link to your blog so I've been enjoying your efforts for at least a year now. I put a link to your blog on my blog page and I know several of my small reader circle have also started following you.

Keep up the good work (both at Wolf Hollow and on your blog)!

the idea of having some live cams on the site has many possibilities. if the site became more known (links and free promo info on other sites) direct fundraising and even appropiate ads could bring revenue to wolf hollow...

I like the webcam idea too. I bet desticam would pick it up.

I wouldn't be surprised if donations haven't increased somewhat over the last two years just because of your blog.

Wouldn't hurt just to have a PayPal link on your blog so if someone gets inspired to donate some money to Wolf Hollow they wouldn't have to work too hard to do it.

Thanks for humoring me everyone! And thanks for the positive feedback!! I really do appreciate it!!!

Ron, the live webcam idea was brought up a bit ago by someone I know who was, at that time, working/volunteering at Wolf Hollow (this same said person could even be the anonymous poster) and it is being batted around.

As for the PayPal link, it's funny you bring that up, as I researched getting them a PayPal account early on in 2007, signed them up, and did have a link on my blog until I switched templates, at which point it vanished. I have yet to put it back on, possibly due to the fact that I may switch templates again. But I will put it back up this week just in case I decide to keep it. Thanks again!

Heather, I LOVE your blog! I volunteer at the Hollow, but you have more inside info than I get! Your pictures and descriptions of the adventures are enchanting, and your humor is delightful. I bet it's a lot of work, but PLEASE keep it up. I check it once a month or so, and there's always something new and exciting. Thanks!

Hi Heather,

You are the only way for me to check up on whats going on at Wolf Hollow since I did my externship 1.5 years ago. I really enjoy reading them, it reminds me of the great times I had up there and how much I miss the place!

Take care,

Yasaman

Just to add some info for Heather as well. If you want to do a PayPal donation please vist the Wolf Hollow's Website .

Another topic of coverage on here that has been discussed is the live cams. This is kinda of a touchy thing with the legalities we have to go though for any person who would be on site for any work. The possiblilites of putting wireless in cams in specific enclosures is a discussion. But then there are always times that would be as boring as watching paint dry like animals sleeping, movement out of camera sight, and no views at night.

Something that is also up for discussion is taking many different videos to showcase animals and procedures that would be available 24/7.

But again, we will see what the final decision is.

I love reading your blog and your pictures are excellent (I was so happy to see the ones of this years fawn releases)! Keep up the great work!

Hi Heather -

I'm Shannon's friend Jenny and I love your blog but I don't think I ever comment. I've also shared your blog with another online forum that has NOTHING to do with animals but has a "Cute Zoo Pics" section, and anytime I post links folks say how much they love your entries.

Lurker here! We live in California in the winter and on island in the summer. We've met you at the county fair, had a lemonaid stand to raise money for wolf hollow, brought you a baby bird, etc. We have 4 kids and plan to be there full time in 2 years.

Though I'm a little slow on the uptake (apparently), I figured I should let you know that I, too, frequent your lovely little blog, Heather. It keeps me sane down here in TX to know that WH is still up and kickin'!
